Dr. Ian Sammy

Dr. Ian Sammy

MBBS(UWI), DA(UK), FRCP(UK), FRCS(Ed), FFAEM

Consultant Emergency Physician at Scarborough General Hospital, Tobago. He was a Senior Lecturer in Emergency Medicine at the University of the West Indies (2002-2017) and the Director of the MSc in Advanced Emergency Care at the University of Sheffield (2013-2017). He established a specialist training programme in Emergency Medicine in Trinidad and Tobago. He is also the inaugural Doctoral Research Fellow at the Trauma Audit and Research Network in Manchester. Dr. Sammy completed his PhD in trauma epidemiology at The School for Health and Related Research (ScHARR) at the University of Sheffield in 2019, investigating factors affecting outcome in older trauma patients in the UK. He is a founding member of the Geriatric Emergency Medicine Special Interest Group (GEMSIG) of the International Federation of Emergency Medicine (IFEM).

Dr. Joanne F. Paul

MBBS (UWI), FRCPCH (UK), FRCP (Edin)

Lecturer in Emergency Medicine with the University of the West Indies, St Augustine Campus (2012) and previous Coordinator of the Emergency Medicine DM and Diploma programmes. She is also the Systems coordinator, Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, NCRHA, Trinidad. She has completed base General Paediatrics specialty in UK and fellowships in Paediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) in Australia and the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada. Dr. Paul is also the Coordinator of the Advanced Paediatric Life Support Courses (APLS) in addition to being an ATLS, Paediatric BASIC and ABLS Instructor. She is a Certified Emergency Department Executive (CEDE) with IEDLI (International Emergency Department Leadership Institute) in association with Harvard University and a member of the PEM special interest group with the International Federation of Emergency Medicine (IFEM). An Executive Member of the Trinidad and Tobago Emergency Medicine Association (TTEMA) and a columnist with the Daily Express Newspaper and the Executive Producer of Homefront (TV Series).

Dr. Paula Robertson

Consultant Paediatrician, currently working in the Paediatric Emergency Department at Eric Williams Medical Complex, Trinidad since September 2013. She graduated from the University of the West Indies in 1995, and completed her initial pediatrics training in Trinidad before proceeding to the UK to complete her postgraduate training. She has exclusively been working with children since 1997, and developed a special interest in children with epilepsy during her time in the UK. She attained Membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health in 2000, and later Fellowship of the same college in 2012. She also attained the MSc in Child Health from the University of Warwick, UK in 2008. She worked as a Consultant Paediatrician in the UK from 2007 until her return to Trinidad in 2013. Dr. Robertson is an experienced instructor in internationally recognised courses such as the Advanced Paediatric Life Support (APLS) Course.
